"Their ability to have, what we call the American dream, that is what has been stolen from blac
As explained by the writer of this documentary, "Slavery By Another Name explores the little-known history of how post-emancipation labor practices and laws created new forms of slavery that persisted from 1865 until well into the 20th century."
The following public television-documentary/production was based on the book by celebrated and renowned journalist Douglas A. Blackmon.
Going off of this exposé on the re-enslavement of African Americans post-emancipation, the Civil Rights Cases of 1883 were yet more instances where Black-American rights were diminished exponentially.
These Civil Rights Cases, acted as a subsequent strike-down unto the Civil Rights Act, exemplifying the general theme throughout history that as Black Americans progress two-steps further, we are pushed five steps back. Continuing further with the Civil Rights Cases of 1883, a resulting effect from them was the State Action Doctrine which entitled that only the Federal Government could violate your rights and subsequently dismantling and invalidating all other forms of discrimination, within public accommodations or not!
So with this, I ask myself, what was the purpose of systematically, unrelentingly, mercilessly oppressing and discriminating against and just generally making life nearly-impossible for Black people in America? What was the point in 1883? There was no longer that large of an economic-need for them as slaves, was it because they were once sub-human and some whites in America felt a sense of jealousy and insecurity in their progression? Or was it solely due to the melanin in their skin, somehow making them out to be considered dirty, less-evolved, non-human mutations? Quite possibly, it was a mixture of all of these things but I'm not exactly sure, myself. If anyone has any more interesting ideas to share please feel to comment below and tell me what you think about the "black experience" or all of this may or may not be the reasoning behind such race relations throughout history.
